Who We Are?

Feargal King was born and raised in Tuam, Co. Galway, Ireland. Although he was trained as a classical guitarist, his years involved with traditional music in Cork, where he went to college to study music, served him well for his more recent career as an Irish entertainer.

Breda King (nee Barry), a gifted singer, pianist and flautist, grew up in the town of Kilkenny, Ireland. She learned to sing at her grandmothers knee, and sang in Church choirs from an early age, and with her father, a well known professional Irish accordionist and singer. She holds degrees in English, Music and Education from UCC.

A Long Journey Home. . .

Breda followed Feargal to the states and they both worked at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Roseburg, Oregon, he as Director of Music & Liturgy and she as Director of Youth Ministries. They got married in 1995, and after the birth of their daughter Ríoghna Rose made the move to Illinois.

They were not long in Illinois, where Feargal assumed the post of full time Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin, IL, before they met the inimitable Margaret Brady, another Kilkenny native. Through contact and friendship with the Bradys (renowned perforemers of Irish music in Chicago, along with Jimmy Moore) they soon found themselves in the middle of the Chicago Irish music scene. Although their first gig was in a tiny church basement in Marengo, their second was in Lakeside Green at the Chicago Hilton on St. Patrick's Day 1999, headquaters of the Chicago St. Pat's parade! That day they played for over 8 hours and were baptized into Irish music performance.

Over the following years they developed their sound and their performance and became a much enjoyed occasional fixture in a select number of Chicago venues, including the famed 'Kitty O' Shea's' on Michigan Avenue. Although their jobs as teachers and Church musicians keep them busy, they still enjoy the opportunity to bring the music of their homeland to a wide variety of audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Ten Years and Still Going Strong!

This talented Irish Duo will consider any occasion you might like to use their talents. Breda's crystal-clear vocals and lively flute playing, combined with Feargal's rhythmically exciting guitar stylings, alongwith the help of electronic drums and MIDI bass pedals on some songs, provide a great combination of sounds to both their well-known standards and less heard but interesting repertoire, traditional and contemporary.
